The Field-Optics Researcher will model, optimize and design the field-optics. This position will be based in Ausra's Palo Alto office.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
-Run ray-trace simulations of field-optics using NREL Sol-Trace and MATLAB.
-Compile and analyze simulation results; use simulation results to optimize field-optics design with respect to various output parameters.
-Make innovative contributions to field-optics design.
-Initiate new designs, supported with modeling and optimization.
-Design and test instrumentation to measure optical performance of components.
-Make modifications to current MATLAB code and develop new MATLAB code.
-Document all work with detailed notes, internal reports and presentations.
-Collaborate across departments.
-Graduate degree in mechanical engineering, engineering physics, physics or mathematics.
-Geometrical-optics, computer modeling and extensive MATLAB programming experience, 1-year minimum.
-Some imaging optics experience desirable.
-Demonstrated experience solving mathematical problems and performing rapid optimization over many parameters and across disciplines.
-Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
-Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Must be willing to submit to a drug screen and background investigation (motor vehicle record, criminal, education and prior employment).
