JOB TITLE SAFETY ENGINEER PRESSURE VESSELS

ANNUAL SALARY $73,038 - $81,411
The salary in the Department of Water and Power is $80,555 to $89,784.

DUTIES A Safety Engineer Pressure Vessels inspects steam and other boilers, unfired pressure vessels, and appurtenances for conformance to State laws and City ordinances regulating their design, fabrication, installation and operation.

REQUIREMENTS A valid Certificate of Competency to inspect boiler and pressure vessels issued by the State of California; or

A valid National Board Commission from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors.

NOTES:

Candidates filing a paper application must attach proof of meeting one of the above requirements at the time the paper application is submitted. Candidates filing online must submit the proof of meeting one of the above requirements within 7 calendar days of filing their online application.

Candidates filing under Requirement Number 2 may submit proof of having passed the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors examination if they have not yet received their Commission.

Appointees to the Department of Building and Safety are required to furnish their own automobile, properly insured, for use in City service. Mileage will be paid in accordance with established rates.

A valid California driver's license is required prior to appointment. Applicants will be disqualified and not eligible for hire if within the past 36 months is convicted of a major moving violation, such as driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and may be disqualified if there are three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents within the past 36 months.

A final average score of 70% is required to be placed on the eligible list.
Based on City policy, before being hired in one of these positions, you may be required to undergo a drug and alcohol screening test.
You must have received a regular appointment to a City position or be on a reserve list to file on a promotional basis.
The promotional list will ordinarily be used ahead of the open competitive list. However, if open competitive candidates received a higher score, without military credits, than the highest available promotional candidate, after adding 0.25 of a point seniority credit for each year of service, the Civil Service Commission, upon request of the appointing authority, may approve certification of such open competitive candidates ahead of the promotional candidates.
