Qualified Junior Engineering Officer of the Watch. Succeeded to watch center supervisor with 14 individuals on my team. Supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in operating machinery such as pumps, valves, and electric motors to limit pressure and flow for main space boilers and raw sewage plants. Assisted in the installation of marine power plants, propulsion system, heating and ventilation systems and other mechanical and electrical equipment on ships docks and marine facilities. Responsible for the vibration analysis of over 2100 pieces of machinery of all types. Turn valves pull levers and flip switches to operate and control turbines to transfer water and fuel oil.
Observe variation in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings. Accountable for the testing and transfer of 500,000 gallons of fuel and 200 gallons of lube oil throughout the Engineering Plant. Repaired various pumps including piston, rotary, centrifugal, reciprocating and variable speed. Repaired machinery using hand tools and power tools. Adjusted the controls of water and cold feed systems, blowers, and igniters for the operation of boilers. Controlled the operation of auxiliary machinery such as feed pumps, fuel oil pumps water and vacuum pumps. Responsible for the Automatic Combustion Control for eight Todd Boilers, Foster Wheeler Boilers and associated machinery. Responsible for the proper operation of the catapult system forth flight deck and the aircraft. Maintaining the water chemistry and water treatment of the potable water for the entire crew. Answerable for maintaining the boiler water chemistry in all the propulsion boilers. Personally responsible for maintaining proper watch standing procedures. Assisted in the installation and testing of the computer based Machinery Condition Assessment System. Organized the calibration of over 7000 gages of all types. Maintained the security of the entire Ship's Maintenance Activity. Established and supervised the late evening shifts at the Naval Base for Quarterdeck watches. Operated standard test and metering equipment of various types including King Nutronics Models 3657,3604,3605. Read and interpret blueprints of the main propulsion plant and associated machinery. Calibrated and troubleshot the components of the Automatic Boiler Control System. Cleaned interiors of the boilers, and storage tanks.
