This was the best quote out of several. Perhaps it is a function of this part of the country (western North Carolina). We could have gone with a cast iron Crown boiler installed for $14K, for 12K, or the Weil-Mclain CGA-6 installed for $6800. The quote for the mod con Weil-Mclain was $5K more, and considering the overall moderate climate here, with many months not requiring much in the way of heat or A/C, it seemed like it would be a long time until we made that up. All companies spec'd out similar BTU boilers, commenting on the house heat loss as well as the volume of water and diameter piping from the old gravity system. That being said, I want to maximize the efficiency of the system that was installed. The CGA-6 is less than half the BTU of the old unit that was removed.
