Very strange thoughts in that question.
You'd probably have gone through two furnaces with many repairs in that time. Boilers last that long as their nature when they don't leak. If it still doesn't leak, then the stuff that hangs outside it like the burner and controls are aging, which means replacing them. 1980 boilers were about 70% AFUE, so getting a new boiler means you can't get a 1980 boiler; most new are over 84% AFUE or better. If you don't want rust, get a boiler with stainless steel or plastic cover. Other people are lucky to get professional service.
