The chamber ceramic fiber and even firebrick can be replaced. Some cast iron boilers don't require a chamber at all. So long as the burner can be adjusted as required when designed so there's no flame right on the casting, it's not an immediate problem. Letting adjustments go astray for several years or maladjustment without combustion test instruments are the cause of most problems on the fire side.
