There are pellet and log steam boilers available, mostly overseas. One difficulty in finding one here is that the log burners violate pollution codes in many areas as the design for log burning makes it almost impossible to arrive at the minimum 78% AFUE rating. Old log steam boilers for residences were in the 45% efficiency range, which doesn't matter much to free wood burning, but it does make particulates and ash in the neighborhoods. Fly ash requires large passages that to allow fly ash to pass through without clogging the exchanger within a week.
