LWCO constant failure

Hello all. I have an old residential boiler in my home (the brand escapes me now). I am on my 3rd float switch in 3 years. I have been using brand new McDonnell&Miller series 69 LWCO as that was what was originally fitted.

The symptoms are as follows: The LWCO will function normally for a period of months after installation. Then one day the boiler will overfill (I have been lucky so far that there was no damage) and finally the boiler will cut out as the float switch no longer floats.

When removed there is what appears to be "barnacle" type solid deposits on the copper float that weigh it down. I flush the boiler regularly and can't seem to keep this from happening. Does anyone else see this??
