Yes, it is most likely right in the installation instructions that a bare tile-lined chimney has to be relined to the proper diameter with new liner.
Is there a way to check myself whether the chimney is OK?
If possible to get to it, you can look for the liner. If you have the installation instructions, you can read them to see what is required.
