Thanks Heatpro. I ran into a plumber today, and he stated that closing the air valve would create a vaccuum preventing condensation from drain, this creating the spitting problem.

This doesn't make any sense, but if the pressure is too high as you suspect, it would make sense that keeping the valve closed does no good, as the pressure is too high and causes it to leak air anyway.

Guess it's time to make a radiator cover....
