Standing pilot boilers sometimes have the pilot blow out when the gas input has changed to be too high, so the boiler seeks air as the extra gas reaches out to get more air. Have the boiler gas pressures tested and adjusted with gas pressure instruments.

Also look to constrictions in the venting that can cause insufficient draft or downdraft. It is a result of inconstant fire startup conditions.
