What do steam traps look like?

At each radiator, the exit line, at the bottom, goes out and into a circulat piece that looks like you could take it off with a large wrench. Then the pipe goes down and curves back towards the radiator and into the floor. Is this a steam trap, making it so that I don't need to vent the radiators?

Most of my radiators get pretty hot pretty quickly. I assume the ones that are slow or rarely get hot could use an air vent. But would everything get hotter quicker, making the boiler not have to work as hard or long, if I vented each radiator?

Trying to save money,

Jake
