boiler replacement?

My house has a boiler I suspect is from the 60's but I don't know much else about how to identify it (it has five big cast iron burners). As I've remodeled my house over the last 12 years, I've moved it to the basement and added a few automatic air relief valves upstairs. It heats the house fine, but I'd like to save money on natural gas. A friend gave me a 1994? boiler (Vaillant GA-100-10)that he only used for a year or two, but it's set up for propane. Can I just replace/drill out the 3 burner orifices, or do the gas valve or pilot need changes? Is this boiler going to save me much money? Also, it looks like I need a new water heater, should I try to use this boiler for both purposes?
