No. the pressure exerted against an expansion tank is equal in every direction, excepting the difference because of weight of water due to height of the system. In other words, changing the location of the tank will not change the pressure.

The acceptance volume of the tank would be about 5 gallons - 5% of the total.

It is possible the fill pressure of the exisiting tank starts higher than necessary. check the stps on getting it right at:
