My family of four uses about a gallon of oil per day during the summer months. That is for at least 4 showers per day, 2 loads of laundry per day, 1 load of dishes per day, hand washing etc.
For one person it shouldn't be more than 1/2 gallon per day unless the system is huge poorly insulated or both.

: So then, if I knew how much oil I used during the months when none was used to heat the house, I could assume that all of it was used to heat the water I used, the water that was being kept hot for when I might use it later, and losses (I would imagine the coil is pretty scaled up)?

: Oh heck, let's just cut to the chase. I need to pony-up for hot water I've used (don't ask). If in the twelve month period from June to June 1300 gal. of oil were used, assuming the information in my original post, how much should I ascribe to that used to heat the water I used?
