: We found out about this problem this week as we came home to a house with a noxious odor. The repairman said that there was a problem with the Burnham v7 boiler. Ours had a hole burned through it. If I had known that this model was prone to failure I would have replaced it ahead of time rather than encounter the smell and mess. The repairman contacted Burnham and they will replace the boiler but we are responsible for the labor costs because the boiler was only warrantied for 8 years. Ours is 8.5 years old! I agree that Burnham should have let their consumers now versus publishing the issue in a financial report that I found online. See below:
: A specific warranty reserve was established in the year 1999, and increased in the following years, for V-7
: residential oil boilers, produced from 1994 through early 1997. This was a very popular product known for its easy
: servicing and reliable operation. Unfortunately, the product developed a high “leaker rate after only a few years
: of service usage. Corrective action was taken in mid-1997 to the original design and boilers produced after this
: date reflect a low, normal defect rate. Production of the V-7 model was discontinued entirely in the spring of year
: 2000 in favor of the feature enhanced V-8 model. As of June 30, 2002, a reserve of $5.5 million is available to pay
: future claims. Claims paid during the first half 2002 reporting period have totaled $2.4 million. The Company
: reviews this reserve quarterly and at this time it is deemed reasonable based on the information available.

I FOUND OUT THE SAME THING JUST ABOUT THE SAME DAY
I HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE RUN AROUND BY BURNHAM. THEY TOLD MY REPAIRMAN THEY WOULD ONLY REPLACE THE BLOCK AND NOT COVER THE LABOR. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE I'M BEING CHARGED A $50.00 HANDLING FEE FOR THE NEW BLOCK. AS OF THIS DATE THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED TO MY E-MAIL REQUEST. IF YOU CALL BY PHONE THEY WILL CONTINUE TO TRANSFER YOU UNTIL YOUR TIRED OF RE-TELLING YOUR STORY AND GIVE UP.
IF ANYBODY ELSE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THANK YOU I SURE DON'T HAVE $1,300.00 LYING AROUND ON THE HOLIDAYS TO FIX IT.
