Series 1-5 needs the conversion kit.

This reference sheet shows that if you have the old head there are four phillips-head screws visible below the motor when you have the old style.

When there is the new style, with replaceable head that doesn't require draining there are two phillips-head screws visible, one at each corner, while looking at the motor base sheet with the cover removed.
