I also had a close call on the site glass.
On my weekly inspection of my AXMAN I noticed
a low level. So I cracked the filler manual
valve and went on to check the oil tanks for
how much gold was left.
Needless to say, I forgot to close the valve.
A day later I was in the basement and noticed
the site glass was full.
Remembering my error I immediately started
to drain the hot water for a lot of
gallons before I began to see the level
come off of the top of the glass tube.
I know I am in the ball park when I have the
furnace running and open the drain valve
on the aquastat? and the burner cuts off
due to the drop in level. Then on again
when the water level recovers.
At least the water in the site glass is
now very clean.
I will have to use a flag or something
when I open the refill valve in the
future...
