Any places water can leave the system so you have to add water weekly should be fixed.
Is the pressure below 2 psig during operation? Too high a pressure will force water up the system and 4 psig can break steam vents on the radiators.
High burner input rates can force steam pressure too fast and cause the same problems.

The idea being that if you can make the operation more gradual and keep the switch from extremes, it shouldn't stick. There is always electronic water level controls available; but they shouldn't compensate for extreme steaming conditions.
