Yes, it appears to be surging. The water in the gauge glass bounces around alot.

I don't know if I have a main vent. Where would this be located in the system? What does it look like (like the vents on the radiator?) My boiler is in the basement but all radiators are on first or second floor. I don't know what to look for or how to adjust the main vent or determine if it's working properly.

The radiator I'm describing in my initial post sounds like a coffee percolator when the heating cycle is going. It seems like the radiator is full of water but I have it pitched so radically back toward the pipe that I don't see how it's possible to have any water in it.
