There won't be sites for training with illustrations. Gas service is dangerous for those who are semi-experienced. Training newbies to the field on the net is the same as letting someone loose without supervision. You can learn a LOT about how factory engineers want you to set up and service gas burners of many types by picking certain brands that have the service and maintenace manuals on-line. A good place to start with is the Bacharach combustion testing site.

It will give you clues about what you need to do for good combustion and the instruments to do it with. After that, it is learning how to use them on standing pilot, 24 volt, millivolt, inshot, strip, atmospheric, forced draft, etc. for each manufacturer's model.
