I am a novice on the topic of boilers and am looking for some advice.
I have a 57 year old hot water, iron cast, gravity boiler (no circulating pump). It works great but I have been told old boilers are typically 50% efficient. I figure the payback period to switch to a new 83% efficient Slant Fin boiler would be 8-10 years.
Any advice as to whether I should stick with my large, simple, problem free but most likely inefficient boiler? Or should I purchase a new boiler which may be more efficient but will obviously not last as long or be as problem free as my original boiler?
