Don't understand why you have to balance zones. Each should have it's own cirulator or zone valve. The better practice now is to use primary / secondary piping with the zones feeding off the primary loop. This helps "balance" the load on the boiler since a steady flow rate is kept through the heat exchanger on modern low mass boilers.
