: 1.) I have found numerous manufacturers of insulated pipe and need some advice. What brand works best? The type with pvc cover pipe and insulated foam over copper pipe works well. Get whatever brand that the local supplier can get.

Has anyone been successful making their own? Any pictures? There are some manufacturers that do it as a hobby to build their own. It isn't a big industry.

: Is there a rule of thumb for heat loss over distance? What suggestions do you have for the minimum depth? If you had a 3/4-inch pipe in the air at 180F you would lose about 100 btuh per foot, not a lot. don't worry about the siatance at all if you use good sealed layered pipe designed to insulate and protect buried pipe.

: 2.) Has anyone built a roof over the concrete pad so they don't have to stand in the rain? Some put wood boilers in a shed. Some are a shed. Pictures? I am looking for ideas.........

: 3.) Would the north east side of my house be a good location for the installation? A good place would be on the side of the house that carries the smoke to your neighbors instead of your home. The wind usually comes from the Northwest, so off the corner where the wind blows away from the house, but not in the lee of the house so smoke recirculates, would be good.

Has anyone had problems with smoke invading the house? Sure, especially when they put it close to the house in the lee, and especially if the chimney is not at least 15 feet away from and 2 feet horizontally higher than the nearest part of the house.
