If you look at the GAMA listings for boilers, you'll find that almost all oil boilers are over 84% AFUE and few are over 87% AFUE, so they won't condense. Calling an AFUE of 87% very high in comparison with 84% lowest rating is hardly a range that can mean anything when someone doesn't use combustion test instruments to tune them. The 3% higher rating won't save any significant money and has no bearing on longevity or quality of a boiler. A water heater is thinner steel than most boilers, yet, subjected to fresh water all year, they can still get a ten-year warrantee. The industry needs some new sales pitches.
