Boilers are just like lawnmowers. The boiler company makes the cast or steel "deck" and then screw common universal fittings and controls on to it. Download manuals on a comparable modern boiler from a manufacturer's website. Someone may have driven a staple too hard against your stat wire and is shorting it. That can be intermittent when you walk across a floor etc. You can check by disconnecting the stat at the boiler and shorting the TT connections with a jumper to see if it is not a relay, etc.
