I have a 1908 boiler with no header, no equalizer, no main vents, no Hartford Loop and several OLD brands of vents. (2500sqft, oil conversion) and it works fine. Lower the pressure and replace the vents if you had them up at 10-15psi and they don't work from damage. Vents have a drop off pressure where they can re-open to let air out from the rest of the system. If they stay shut steam can still come in and condense, IF there is not air in the lines before that riser/radiator. Vents are a minor part of balancing in steam compared to radiation size to heat loss.
