If you read my previous post you know we are selling our home. The home we are buying is a 2400 SQFT colconial with electric baseboard heat. $500 Electric bills are no really an option, so our first priority is to install a oil fired furnace, system with central AC (or the ability to add it later). SO that means running ducts. I have spoken with a couple profesionals and have gotten differing advice. One cantractor suggested having a single air handler in the basement and running ducts up through the closets to reach the second floor. The second suggested a hydo-air system with an one air handler in the attic for the 2nd floor and one in the basement for the ground floor. He said we would also need two conderser units outside for the AC, one for each air handler. Does this sound reasonable? Any other suggestions? we havent closed on the house yet but the second guy gave me a ballpark figure of around $18,000 - $20,000 for heat and AC.

Another question....is a buderus furnace worth the extra investment?
