Smell from Steam Radiator ?

Had oil fired steam radiators for ten years now. Last month I started smelling something awful ( kinda organic like rot ) in my side sun room with there is a large radiator. Under the radiator is a dirt crawl space. My first thought was a mouse died near the basement steam pipes leading to this radiator. Smell has been going for 3 weeks. Yesterday, I shut off this particular radiator, and them smell has gone away about 80%. Although I am still thinking there is a mouse under the floor near the piping leading to this radiator - why would shutting the rad down reduce the smell ( cause the pipes leading up to the valve still are hot...? OR, could the smell be coming from the steam/water ( doubtful, I drain and re-fill every 2 weeks )...of could this radiator gave gotten something inside ( doubtful -closed, single pipe system).. HELP any other ideas ? When I turn the rad on again at the valve, stink comes back....
