Many, if not most of the areas of the country have hard water, so tankless coil boilers were not popular there as the coils lime up. The exact same problem occurs in instantaneous water heaters. If you have very soft water and don't mind adding larger pipe to feed a 100,000 btuh input fire to heat shower water, then an instantaneous water heater at over $1000 an installation every five years to replace a $300 water heater is for you.
