Changing the pressuretrol would solve the problem of having too high a pressure if it actually controlled the burner, which it is supposed to do. Setting the control to 2 psig means that the burner should shut off at 2 psig; but, it didn't and doesn't, so changing the pressuretrol was not the answer. As the new pressuretrol would disconnect the power to the burner if it was subject to the boiler pressure, either the wiring that sends power to the burner is not passing through the control so burner power can be disconnected when the pressure gets to 2 psig
the tube that connects the pressuretrol to the boiler is clogged and should have been changed.
