Re; Gas condensing HW boilers

What happens when your HWR temperature is too hot to allow heat transfer from flue gas? Does the HWR bypass the condensing heat exchanger and enter the heat exchanger transferring heat from the gas burner, or do these type boilers have a single heat exchanger with the flue gas recirculated in some configuration to transfer heat to the return temp. Does the flue gas simply vent at the higher temperatures? I ask because I want to know any implications resulting from running this type of boiler on a distribution system with part time (read very cold 2 months during 6 month heating season).

Also, is there any rule of thumb on how much condensate will be generated? I realize there are a lot of factors, so any info will be helpful. What are the possible methods of disposing (I do not have floor drains)? thanks.
