Yes, it is a good sign that the burner shut off. It means that the float or sensor mechanism that checks if there is a minimum water level was working. That is how to check that it operates, lower the water in the low water cutoff chamber and see if the burner stops. Checking that every time you drain the low water cutoff is being careful.
