I would have to wonder if they did a heat loss. A 1.50 firing rate for a 2800 sq ft house seems a little large. If indeed it is too large that means higher fuel bills and increased maintenance costs. I would insist on a computerized heat loss. These progams are available today and should be used. When we started doing heat losses we found most equipment we were installing was between 40 and 60% oversized. For example; my home is 2100 sq feet, 84 years old, good doors and windows and the heat loss was 58,000 btu/hr. I added an indirect and prioritized it so as not to add any boiler size. This has been in 9 winters already with a family of 5 and never ran out of hot water or had a lack of heat.
