: : I need a new gas boiler. Which is better and why?
: : Weil McClain or Utica.

I recently had a Weil-McLain Ultra 155 installed, along with entirely new associated equipment (circulator, zoning valves, fill system, etc.), and I've been very pleased with the new system performance. Having a good contractor and proper system design is probably more important than which boiler is installed; both are likely capable of doing the job well. The cast aluminum exchanger in the Weil McLain Ultra's is a newer, less-proven design - so there may be some risk involved there (although it's warrantied). As an engineer, though, I can say that the design concept (aluminum, mono-block) is technically the best, but I can't yet comment on how well they pulled it off - only time will tell!
