I currently have an American Standard oil-fired steam boiler. The boiler, besides being more than 50 years old and having very rusted connections, is very inefficient. Also, the hotwater only lasts for approximately 3-5 minutes and then begins to get cold. I'm very close to deciding on replacing the entire system with a Buderus oil-fired steam boiler and Riello burner. Today someone suggested that I close up the external tank connection and keep the existing boiler just for heat. I'd then have to install a new oil-fired water heater for hot water service.
Any advice?
