Oil Burner

I have an old Crane Sunnyday oil furnace/boiler that is original to the house (about 40 years old). I know it needs to be replaced with a more efficient unit, but cash flow won't allow it for 2-3 years. Does it make sense to replace the burner unit right now? I was quoted about $500 for a new one installed, but will any oil savings make it worth it for the next few years? The house is only a 1800 sq ft ranch, but I go through a ton of oil each winter.
