Buying a house with dodgy Valliant

Hi

I'm buying a house with a problematic Valliant boiler. I don't have the cash to replace it, but I've had a Corgi engineer to have a look and the best he can do is tell me that there is an intermittent fault with the hot water. Sometimes you turn on the tap and you get instant hot water and other times you have to turn it on two or three times before any results. He says I need a Valliant specialist to tell me how much it will be to fix it.

From what I've read in the posts below, it could be the diverter valve. Does this sound correct ? and also how much would this cost to be fitted ? It appears that the seller is not interested in paying any money as they don't think there's a problem with it.
