Which end of the radiator is the flow?

Hello,

I am fitting a new radiator tomorrow and the instruction state that it is very important to have the flow entering the radiator diagonally opposite the ventilation valve. With the old radiator removed, what is the easiest way for me to tell which end is the flow? I was thinking of draining the system down, removing the radiator, attaching hose to both pipes and turning the pump on briefly to see which one pushes out some water. Is there an easier way?
