Look at your chimney top on a cold morning. White 'smoke'? Shut off the heat, let cool before adding a lot of water to not shock the boiler and manually raise the water level to the top of the boiler and look for water inside the boiler. It is common to rust through where the water, iron and air meet. If it is not a leak right above the water line sending steam up the stack then you have to retrace the system. Multiple air vents (and valve packings)that don't shut off when hot can lose a lot of water.
