Insulating your home will cut that $600 per month to $200. $400 buys a lot of cellulose loose-fill insulation that can be hand stuffed into a hole at the top of each stud space. Repatching the holes with plaster of paris is not expensive. This can take many months of part-time work, starting with the room you spend most of the time in. The $2000 per year saved from the fuel bill will ease your life and make you much more comfortable.

Look to drop the temperature of the rooms you spend little time in to 55F until you clear enough money from the savings to invest in the insulation. This can be done by placing boxes over the surface of those radiators, adjusting the amount of surface to let less heat in the room.

Careful progress over the next months will make life affordable.
