copper/steel dielectric union?

I just got a new Weil-McLain EG gas-fired steam boiler with a tankless coil feeding a 50 gallon Aero storage tank.
There are about six joints between copper and black pipe in this installation. If dielectric unions were not
used, as I suspect, can I expect early corrosion and failure? Should I insist that these unions be installed? Do building codes tend to require them?
What do most building codes require? I have not made the final payment for this system yet. Thanks in advance for any help.
