This is valuable information. Sounds like the plumber I was using is going "off the list". He has definitely given me some bad advice. It is an older American Standard steam boiler model 1B J1. There were a couple of leaking radiator vents, and I found that the low water cut-off did it's job. (I have been flushing that valve weekly.) I will get right on this problem, as soon as the relatives have left (big weekend shindig). Thanks again for the info.
