I feel while the boiler is off you may go for a hydraulic test which may help you to locate the spot of leakage. As you say when the boiler is in operation due expansion the leakge stops and could not be located.Since the spot of leakage is less than the expansion in the boiler / tube therefore it is working other wise it may be otherwise it may have oter operational effects.
