A valve that permits water to enter the system must be closed to prevent water entering the system. This pressure reducing valve is usually in a cold water line near the boiler piping. Shut the hand valve to prevent water entering the system. Attach a hose to the boiler drain to send water to a sink or outdoors. You may need to open a vent fitting in a high point of the system to let air in to help drain the system. When the system is drained to a point below the baseboard, the baseboard section can be cut out and caps soldered over the stubs. The steps are then reversed to fill the system. There is also an air purge procedure to follow at http://www.hydronic.net
