I've got a two zone wet-base boiler that runs hot-water baseboard throughout my house. Lately, the thing has been banging something awful. It only bangs when the burner is running, after it gets above about 120F, and it quits banging about 30 seconds after it reaches the high temp cutout. I had the service guy from the oil company come out, and he claims that the mineral deposits from my hard water have settled in the boiler, and the banging that I'm hearing is being caused by the minerals boiling. Does this make any sense? His suggestion ws to drain th eboiler, and flush it with a diluted hydrochloric acid solution, same as you would for a clogged hot water coil. Anybody every heard of or done this on the boiler (I've done the coil, but doing the boiler kinda scares me).
