Tell those people that your boiler is 40 yrs old. They last 'til they leak so bad that they can't be fixed. Put your money in a savings account and read up on blr replacements if you want to be ready when it happens. Many manufacturers have installation manuals online. You might buy a new car every three yrs because you never want to break down with a car load of belongings etc. The boiler should have much less risk, and if you have gas, you should have a space heater or gas fireplace insert that doesn't need electricity during outages. You haven't said that yours is rusted badly on the outside, a lot of repairs needed or any other reason yet. If it never had prolonged leaks etc it can last toward as long as my 92 yr old.
