My 13 year old Peerless JOTW boiler recently started knocking. I assume from localized boiling. It is fired at .85GPH and water temp is nominally 180. It was piped with the supply and return both at the front rather than diagonally as recommended in the boiler instructions. I don't know if that could be a contributer. Knocking begins about 2 minutes after startup and ends about 5 seconds after firing stops.
1. What is the most likely cause and possible solution.
2. Is correction of the problem urgent or can it be put off until spring?
3. What is the worst case result?
Any assistance would be very much appreciated.
