Thanks for the prompt response. The week we moved in we added 6 inch batts in the attic above the cold rooms and you could hardly tell. (I should say the cold rooms are also over the garage -which stays about 45-50 degrees since it is on the same level as the basement-heat transfer. What I did do that made a tremendous difference was to close the rad closest to the thermosat. This small rad is in the living room which has one other large radiator. Turning off the small one allowed the system to balance by increasing the cycle.

One last question. Do radiators have to be all or nothing or can you leave the valve partially open.
