you should be blowing down the low water cut off weekly. if you can hear the radiator vents, they dont work properly and should be replaced. if your lossing steam from the air vents yes, your boiler would require make up water which is not good. main vents or quick vents {same thing} are on the ends of the main pipe runs or should be.
